Written and reviewed by Dr Ibrahim Imam, Consultant Neurologist. Last reviewed .

Nerve conduction studies (NCS). F waves: these assess conduction across the whole motor nerve. Fully referenced neurology checklist.

Test indices

  • F waves: these assess conduction across the whole motor nerve
  • F reflex: this assesses both motor and sensory functions
  • Conduction block (CB): this is assessed with compound muscle action potential (CMAP)
  • Temporal dispersion: this is CB with increased duration
  • Distal motor latency (DML): this is significantly prolonged with anti-MAG neuropathies
